Don’t rush your horse ride. Stay a while. We invite you to experience an authentic working farm at the foot of the majestic Swartberg. The goodness of the earth combined with wholesome food and great company is an irresistible, magic potion that charms guests to return year after year. Doornkraal farm hosts two cosy cottages that are entirely private. The morning knock at the door is your freshly made light breakfast delivered by a member of our enterprising kitchen team. We complement our guests with a bottle of our own Doornkraal wine to sip on while listening to the quiet, soothing sounds of the rural Klein Karoo or get lost staring at the expansive veld and stargazing the deep night skies. Explore our beautiful farm on foot or hoof with unmarked walking trails and if you get tired hop on one of our horses.

Kerneelia Kothuis

Farm stay, self-catering, Cottage, Romantic, Off the Grid

Luxury meets Karoo hospitality at Kerneelia, a quaint and secluded cottage with a wonderful mountain view on our Klein Karoo farm near De Rust.

This romantic cottage comprises of one bedroom, furnished with a king-size bed, which can be converted into 2 single beds. There is a three-quarter sleeper couch available in the living area for an extra guest. The bathroom is fitted with a shower, a basin and a toilet, and an extra toilet is available outside the house, the cottage is off the grid, utilizing solar, gas and wood for energy.

Instead of a swimming pool, we offer you a dip in our large wine barrel which is freshly filled every time we have new guests with water from the mountain. You are also most welcome to use the swimming pool at the main farmhouse which is a short walk away.

The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering and contains a gas stove & oven, a fridge-freezer, as well as cutlery and crockery. Fresh milk and farm butter are provided in the fridge, and tea- and coffee-making facilities and rusks are available in the pantry. The kitchen opens onto an undercover patio area which has an outdoor dining and braai facilities.

Additionally, you’ll find a sitting area with a fire pit a short distance from the house. This is the perfect spot on windless evenings and an excellent vantage point for stargazing.

Doornkraal Tuinhuis

Farm Stay, Self-catering, Private Cottage, Cape Style

Charming Edwardian-style cottage set in the gardens of the 1914 farmhouse of the Le Roux family. It overlooks the farm and has views of the Swartberg- & Kammanassie Mountains.

The cottage consists of 2 en suite bedrooms and a small, separate kitchen, accessible from the second bedroom. The main bedroom is equipped with a four-poster Queen sized bed, and there are two single beds in the second room. The kitchenette is well-equipped to prepare meals, containing a bar fridge, an electrical oven, gas stovetop, kettle, coffee plunger, Nespresso machine, cooking utensils, cutlery and crockery. From the kitchen, you can access one of the braai areas and at the front of the cottage, next to the swimming pool, you will find the second braai area.

You will find a small study next to the main bedroom.

There is a swimming pool that the main house and cottage shares, however, it is seldomly used by other guests. You have a choice of two braai areas, inclusive of firewood.
