Documentary of Doornkraal

. This documentary tells the story of Doornkraal, a working farm in the Klein Karoo, through the enduring relationship between the land, its horses, and the women who still manage it on horseback. The film is more than a portrait of a farm, it is an exploration of a place where history is still lived, and where the rhythms of the past merge with the work and wisdom of today.

Rather than offering a comprehensive historical overview, the film uses Doornkraal’s 140-year legacy of farming, community, and family connection as a point of departure for a story that unfolds in the present.

The Le Roux family has played a defining role in the development of agriculture in the Klein Karoo, and Doornkraal stands as a landmark bearing witness to that contribution. What makes it remarkable today is that this family legacy now lives on in the hands of women, a natural transition that not only changes structures, but deepens perspectives.

This documentary explores how the land and its animals are approached through female leadership, and how these new voices are rewriting the story of an old farm. The story unfolds through the voice of Boervrou Celia and some supporting but central male characters.
